Germany Launches Largest Battery Storage System with Support from ZREW Transformers
Germany's largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has been officially launched in Bollingstedt, Schleswig-Holstein, boosting the country's renewable energy infrastructure.
Developed by ECO STOR GmbH, in partnership with EPW GmbH, the system has a capacity of 103.5 MW / 238 MWh and is capable of supplying renewable electricity to around 170,000 multi-person households for two hours. The facility helps stabilize the SH-Netz grid by storing excess electricity from wind and solar sources and releasing it during peak demand periods in the morning and evening.
The system comprises 64 lithium-ion battery containers and 32 containers for inverters and transformers, covering approximately 1.2 hectares.
Two oil power transformers used in the facility were supplied by ZREW Transformatory S.A., part of the R&S Group. Each transformer is rated at 50/63 MVA and was manufactured at ZREW's facility in Åódź, Poland.
ZREW supports the integration of renewable energy into the grid by delivering power transformers for distribution networks, industrial applications, and renewable projects.
