GE Vernova to Bolster India’s Renewable Grid with 765 kV Shunt Reactors

GE Vernova's Grid Solutions business has clinched multi-million dollar orders from Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) for the supply of 765 kV Shunt Reactors. The collaboration comes as part of PGCIL's ongoing efforts to integrate renewable energy sources into the national grid and enhance electricity transmission across key regions like Rajasthan and Karnataka.

The latest orders underscore GE Vernova's steadfast commitment to supporting India's ambitious renewable energy targets. Eric Chaussin, Power Transmission Business Leader of Grid Solutions, emphasized the pivotal role of the awarded transformers in reinforcing India's power transmission network. These 765 kV Shunt Reactors, designed and manufactured by GE Vernova, play a crucial role in bolstering grid stability and efficiency, particularly vital amid the growing integration of large-scale renewable energy projects.

Execution of the orders will be spearheaded by GE T&D India, the listed entity of GE Vernova's Grid Solutions business in the country. GE T&D India will oversee the end-to-end process, encompassing design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, erection, and commissioning of the reactors at designated transmission substation sites. Manufactured at GE T&D India's Vadodara plant, these transformers are slated for delivery during the financial year 2025-26.

Sandeep Zanzaria, MD & CEO of GE T&D India, expressed delight in contributing to the modernization of India's grid infrastructure. The collaboration with PGCIL aligns with the government's Make in India initiative, underscoring GE Vernova's commitment to local manufacturing. With over 600 transformers and reactors of 765 kV class already supplied from its Vadodara facility, GE T&D India solidifies its position as a leading manufacturer of such critical equipment in the country.

As India ramps up its renewable energy targets, aiming for 50% of its power generation capacity from non-fossil sources by 2030, investments in robust grid infrastructure become imperative. The integration of 765 kV Shunt Reactors marks a significant step towards achieving these goals, ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy future for the nation.
