GE Vernova Invests $200M in Vietnam Transformer Plant, Expands LNG Power Portfolio
GE Vernova, the U.S.-based energy company, announced plans to invest US$200 million in a new facility in Vietnam to manufacture large power transformers for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission projects. The announcement was made during the company’s inaugural The Energy of Change Summit 2026, held in Hanoi.
The planned transformer plant, expected to start operations in 2028, will be one of three globally for GE Vernova, alongside facilities in the United Kingdom and India.
In addition to manufacturing, GE Vernova is supporting the commercial operation of the 1.6 GW Nhon Trach 3 and 4 power plants, owned by PetroVietnam Power (PV Power), which utilize HA gas turbine technology fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The company will supply 9HA.02 gas turbines and H78 generators to several LNG projects in Vietnam, including Quynh Lap, Hai Phong (with VinEnergo, part of Vingroup), and Quang Trach II (EVN).
Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova, emphasized Vietnam’s rapid economic growth and the company’s goal to support the country’s energy transition with advanced gas turbine technology and transformer manufacturing.
Vietnamese Acting Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung highlighted the importance of international partnerships in meeting rising energy demand while achieving the nation’s net-zero emissions target by 2050. John W. McIntyre, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, said the agreements reflect the dynamic Vietnamese energy market and underscore energy cooperation as a pillar of the U.S.-Vietnam strategic partnership.
