GE Vernova and Polimex Mostostal Secure Key Contract for Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm in Poland

GE Vernova's Grid Solutions business (GE) has announced a significant partnership with Polimex Mostostal (PXM) to construct essential onshore infrastructure for the Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm in Poland. The project, a collaboration between Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, is poised to be one of the largest offshore wind farms globally and a cornerstone of Poland's energy transition.

The contract entails the construction of a 275/400 kV high voltage substation, along with onshore export lines, crucial for efficiently transferring power from the wind farm into the Polish Power System. GE Vernova will provide key technologies such as Gas Insulated Switchgear, Transformers, and Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOMs), ensuring grid stability, particularly vital in integrating renewable energy sources.

Johan Bindele, head of Grid Systems Integration at GE Vernova, highlighted the project's significance in advancing renewable energy and Poland's shift towards sustainability. Krzysztof Figat, President of the Management Board of Polimex Mostostal, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in their team and emphasized their readiness to contribute expertise to Baltica 2's success.

With Baltica 2's anticipated completion by 2027, providing clean energy to millions of Polish households, the project marks a crucial milestone in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing national energy security. This venture underscores the pivotal role of high voltage onshore substations in facilitating the efficient transmission of renewable energy, essential for achieving ambitious green energy targets.
