GE to upgrade Norwegian power grid with latest SVC technology

26 Jul 2019

OSLO, NORWAY - GE Grid Solutions has won a contract with Statnett, Norway's electrical transmission system operator, to upgrade the existing Static Var Compensators (SVCs) at Rød and Verdal substations with the latest SVC technology.

The contract involves upgrades to Statnett's existing Static Var Compensators to regulate the voltage in the system during normal operations and provide reactive power compensation during faults in the system, the press release said.

The new technology will allow the utility to provide reactive power support, which enhances controllability, improves stability and increases power transfer capacity of AC transmission systems.
