GE awarded refurbishment contract in Denmark

22 Feb 2021
DENMARK -- GE's Grid Solutions has been awarded a turnkey refurbishment contract with Denmark's Transmission System Operator (TSO), Energinet.

The project focuses on the replacement of obsolete installations on the 132 kV HVAC transformer station at the Brøndbygaard substation, located 9,5 miles from Copenhagen.
The manufacturer will perform works to increase the transfer of power, reduce power losses, and improve energy availability, IT security and reliability. The substation's safety and environmental-friendly capabilities will also be upgraded with a new foundation, drainage structure and firefighting system.
This contract, part of a national reinvestment plan in Denmark, marks the first time Energinet has delegated a complete refurbishment to only one supplier. In the past, the company used several suppliers for such projects and coordinated the project.
"To outsource an entire refurbishment project to one supplier is a new method for us, as to the oversight of a rather big workload in the coming years - and it might turn out to be a very effective method. We look forward to seeing the project's progress and working together with GE," said Thomas Kjergaard, Project Manager, Energinet.
"The team had to show Energinet that we were the supplier they could count on for their most important criteria including project management and EHS (environment, health and safety)," said Alan Jones, Grid Services Leader. "Our commitment to deliver a quality Service solution while enabling future upgrades aligned to the customer's future investment strategies also proved essential," he added.
