Four Additional Transformers Delivered to Baltic Power Offshore Wind Farm

6 Dec 2024
The Baltic Power Offshore Wind Farm project has seen further progress with the delivery of four additional transformers to the site, following the installation of two transformers at the onshore substation last month.

The transport of the transformers was handled by UTC, with support from NXGEN, covering a 46-kilometer route to the project site.

"Using the extensive knowledge and experience within our team, we engineered a solution to utilise two 14 axle SPMTs [self-propelled modular trailers] in 3 file configuration. Not only is this a fairly unusual combination, but we also had a very limited mobilisation window, so we had to design the solution, build the equipment and be ready at the port within a short time period." Explained Russ Jones, Director at NXGEN.

The transport operation was carried out in two phases, each lasting three consecutive nights. During the first phase, two transformers were transported, with day shifts for preparation and refueling ensuring smooth execution. The process was then repeated for the remaining two components, completing the delivery on schedule.

Together with the previously installed transformers, these components are essential for the wind farm's goal of delivering up to 1.2 GW of clean energy to Poland's grid. Located 23 kilometers off Poland's coast, the Baltic Power Offshore Wind Farm is on track to begin offshore installations in 2025, with full operations expected by 2026.
