First transformers with CO2-reduced electrical steel in production by SGB-SMIT in Germany

28 Mar 2022

GERMANY - The first transformers with thyssenkrupp's CO2-reduced electrical steel are in production at SGB-SMIT Group's SBG Neumark manufacturing site.

The production of the first distribution transformer using CO2-reduced electrical steel from thyssenkrupp Steel's brand is proceeding successfully as expected, SGB-SMIT said in a press release.

The transformers are being produced at SGB-SMIT Group's manufacturing site in Neumark, Germany.

thyssenkrupp Steel has been offering certified CO2-reduced steel since October 2021. The new material will be used in power and distribution transformers for green-energy digital substations constructed by the energy company E.ON.

The tests showed that the transformer produced at the SBG Neumark site of a series intended for the new digital E.ON medium-voltage substations in Germany meets all calculation specifications and does not exceed any tolerances, the manufacturer said in a press release.

"We look forward with confidence to the upcoming follow-up orders," a source from SGB-SMIT said in a press release.
