7 Sep 2021

Helsinki, Finland -- This will ensure the system security of the main grid in the region in the future.

The Finnish transmission system operator has announced the overhaul of the Rauma substation, one of the most important substations in Finland's power system. Work is scheduled to begin  in 2022.

According to Fingrid, the substation's outdated equipment  will be completey overhauled and modernised. The cost of the project has been estimated to €24 million ($28.5 million).

The Rauma substation is one of the most important substations in Finland's power system in terms of system security and ensures the security of the supply of electricity to the entire Rauma and Satakunta regions. The cross-border connections from the Rauma substation also represents an important energy transfer point between Sweden and Finland.

"The substation overhaul project is a large and demanding project that requires good planning. Detailed outage plans must be prepared for the duration of construction and repair works at the substation to ensure that the refurbishment does not disrupt the normal operation of the power system," said Jarmo Henttinen, Project Manager at Fingrid.

The project is sheduled to be completed by 2024 or 2025.
