Final offshore transformer platform sets sail for Moray East windfarm

1 Sep 2020
SCOTLAND, UK - The third and final offshore transformer platform manufactured by Siemens Energy left the fabrication site last weekend and sailed to the Moray East offshore windfarm project, located 22 km from the Aberdeenshire coast in Scotland.

The three platforms will be connected with the capacity to deliver 950 MW of clean energy from the Moray East project.
The OTMs (offshore transformer modules) stabilize and maximize the voltage of the power received from the offshore wind turbines before transmitting the electricity to shore.
The power transformers on the platform are filled with synthetic ester.
Each module will transmit the power generated by the 100 turbines across the 295kmsite, back to shore and into the national grid. They will transform the output voltage of the wind turbines from 66 kV to the transmission to shore voltage of 220 kV.
