Fervo Energy Ships Main Power Transformer for Cape Phase I
Fervo Energy has shipped a Main Power Transformer (MPT) manufactured by Virginia Transformer Corp to Cape Station, marking a key step in the development of Cape Phase I. The transformer, weighing over 500,000 lbs, successfully passed its Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) before shipment.
The MPT will step up and transmit all 100 MW of power generated by Cape Phase I, enabling long-distance delivery to contracted offtakers in California. The unit is critical to the project’s electrical infrastructure, supporting reliable power delivery from the geothermal facility to the grid.
The transformer is scheduled to arrive at Cape Station later this month. Once installed, it will serve as the central component for transmitting energy from Cape Phase I, helping meet regional power demand with renewable geothermal megawatts.
The shipment follows standard engineering and testing protocols to ensure operational reliability for large-scale energy projects.
