Federal Government Boosts National Grid with 625MW Addition

13 May 2024

The federal government has announced the injection of 625 megawatts (MW) of power into the national grid, elevating the grid's wheeling capacity to 4800MW.

Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser, Strategic Communications to the Minister of Power, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday.

According to Tunji, Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, made the announcement during the inauguration of the 63 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA), 132/33 Kilovolt (KV) mobile station at Ajah, Lagos, and the 60MWA, 132/33KV Power Transformer in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi.

Adelabu highlighted that these projects are a testament to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, aimed at transforming the power sector to ensure reliable and sustainable energy infrastructure for Nigeria's development.

The minister emphasized that the mobile substation inaugurated is strategically deployed to alleviate transmission capacity constraints by over 1300 megawatts across the nation.

He underscored the significance of the project and other equipment currently undergoing installation under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI).
