Europower to Build Solar Plant and Transformer Substation in Bosnia
Turkish energy infrastructure company Europower Enerji has secured a €26.9 million ($30.6 million) renewable energy contract in Bosnia and Herzegovina, after being selected as the preferred bidder in a tender supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
The project, awarded by state-owned utility EPBiH, covers the Gracanica Solar Power Plant, a 110/20 kV transformer substation, and a 110 kV transmission line. It is structured as a turnkey EPC contract, requiring Europower to deliver integrated generation and grid infrastructure.
Under the agreement, the company will construct two solar power plants with a combined capacity of 50 MW DC, alongside the associated substation and transmission infrastructure needed to connect the facility to the national grid.
Once operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 67.75 GWh of electricity annually, sufficient to supply around 22,000 households, while avoiding more than 40,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.
The investment forms part of broader efforts to expand renewable energy capacity and grid modernization in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with EBRD financing supporting infrastructure development.
Behic Harmanli, chairperson of Girisim Elektrik, which controls Europower Enerji, highlighted the growing role of integrated engineering in energy projects, stating:
"Energy transformation is no longer evaluated only from the generation side. It is increasingly linked to transmission infrastructure, grid modernization and integrated engineering solutions," Harmanlı said.
He described the project as a milestone for Europower’s international expansion, particularly in high-voltage systems and energy infrastructure delivery.
Founded in 2009, Europower Enerji manufactures and designs equipment including switchgear, substations, transformers, and automation systems, positioning it across both generation and grid-side segments of the power sector.
