Ukrenergo, the national energy company of Ukraine, will receive a grant of EUR 100 million from the European Union for the restoration and protection of its substations. This information comes from a statement by the company, reported by the Ukrainian News agency.

According to the statement, the European Commission has authorized the KfW to allocate funds from the special budget program of the EU Ukraine Investment Facility to Ukrenergo. These funds will support several priority energy projects, including the modernization of high-voltage substations in western Ukraine, the construction of interstate interconnectors to integrate Ukraine with the continental European energy system, and the repair and restoration of substation equipment damaged by Russian shelling. Additionally, the grant will facilitate the purchase and delivery of new equipment and the implementation of measures to enhance the physical protection of Ukrenergo substations.

Since the beginning of the war, Ukrenergo has attracted EUR 1.5 billion in international aid, with EUR 324 million raised with the support of KfW. Recently, the Ukrainian News agency reported that Ukrenergo would also receive a EUR 15 million grant from the Credit Institution for Reconstruction (KfW, Germany) specifically for substation restoration.

This significant EU grant underscores the ongoing support for Ukraine's energy infrastructure amidst the challenges posed by the conflict.
