Winding Wire for Transformers in High Demand as AI Data Centers Expand

20 Mar 2025
The demand for special winding wire for transformers is surging due to the rapid expansion of AI data centers and the need to replace aging U.S. transformers. This trend has driven Essex Solutions, a U.S. subsidiary of LS Group, to significant growth, with an 11% annual increase in North America and 8% in Europe over the past four years.

In response, Essex Solutions is expanding production capacity. The company has added two new production lines at its North American facilities, aiming to increase output from 3,500 tons to 8,500 tons by 2030. Similarly, its European plant is optimizing operations to raise production from 11,000 to 15,000 tons.

A company representative stated that Essex Solutions seeks to strengthen its North American and European market presence, increasing its market share from 19% to 50% in North America and from 28% to 35% in Europe by 2028.

The transformer winding wire industry is facing an ongoing supply shortage, with order deliveries now exceeding two years. This supply-demand imbalance is expected to continue until 2030, fueling further growth in the sector.

The rising need for electrical infrastructure--driven by AI power demands and aging grid components--positions Essex Solutions as a key player in the transformer industry, focusing on technology innovation and facility expansion.
