ERMCO to Open New Manufacturing Facility in Arizona

22 Jan 2026
ERMCO, a North American manufacturer of liquid‑filled distribution transformers, announced plans to open a new manufacturing facility in Maricopa County, Arizona. The company, which produces transformers for utility, commercial, and industrial markets, is expanding to meet growing regional demand.

The new facility will span 566,121 square feet (52,595 square meters), including 4,070 square feet (379 square meters) of office space, and is expected to begin operations in 2027. Initial construction will start in 2026, with the project projected to create more than 500 jobs across engineering, skilled trades, and operations.

According to Tim Mills, ERMCO President & CEO, the expansion is intended to increase Three-Phase transformer production and support the power distribution grid in the western U.S. The plant will be located near Phoenix, providing closer access to regional utility customers and reducing transportation time and costs.

Public officials, including Governor Katie Hobbs and Senator Mark Kelly, highlighted the economic benefits of the project, including job creation and support for local manufacturing.

The expansion aligns with broader infrastructure modernization trends, as utilities seek to upgrade aging transformers to improve reliability, efficiency, and safety.

ERMCO, headquartered in Dyersburg, Tennessee, is a subsidiary of Arkansas Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (AECI) and employs nearly 3,500 people across North America. The company specializes in liquid‑filled distribution transformers for the utility, commercial, and industrial markets.
