ERC Approves $90M Transmission Projects to Boost Power Supply in the Philippines

17 Feb 2025
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved four key transmission infrastructure projects worth a total of $90 million (P5 billion) by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). The projects are designed to improve the reliability and stability of power supply in Bacolod, Leyte, and Pangasinan, addressing the growing electricity demand in these regions.

Among the approved projects is the Granada 230-kilovolt (kV) substation in Bacolod, with a budget of $35.7 million (P1.943 billion). It aims to reduce transformer congestion and ensure a more stable power supply for Bacolod and nearby areas. The substation is set for completion by August 2028.

In Leyte, the Sumangga 138 kV substation, with a budget of $24.1 million (P1.361 billion), will ease pressure on the Ormoc Substation and improve overall system efficiency. This project will be finished by March 2028.

Additionally, the La Carlota 138 kV substation in Negros Occidental, costing $22.6 million (P1.129 billion), will address overloading in the Bacolod-San Enrique transmission line. This is expected to be operational by August 2028.

Lastly, the Nagsaag-Tumana 69 kV transmission line in Pangasinan, with a budget of $10.8 million (P583.5 million), will help meet the growing electricity demand in Eastern Pangasinan. The project is scheduled for completion by November 2025.

These projects align with NGCP's strategy to modernize the grid and enhance power distribution, ensuring long-term reliability and efficiency.
