EPC contractor selected for a major Ontario transmission project

ONTARIO, CANADA - Quanta Services, Inc. has been selected by Wataynikaneyap Power to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) solutions for the Wataynikaneyap Transmission Project (Watay Project) in Northwestern Ontario, Canada.


The contract includes EPC services for 22 substations and more than 1,1180 miles (1,800 kilometers) of transmission and distribution infrastructure ranging in voltage from 25 kV to 230 kV, reports T&D World.

The Watay Project is a unique First Nations-led development that will connect 17 distant First Nations communities to Ontario power grid, and the largest electric infrastructure project ever implemented to connect remote communities in Ontario to the electricity transmission grid.

Wataynikaneyap Power is a licensed transmission company, regulated by the Ontario Energy Board, and majority-owned by a partnership of 24 First Nation communities in partnership with Fortis, Inc. and other investors.
