Sri Lanka is currently facing widespread blackouts after a monkey disrupted the national power grid, causing a massive power outage. The incident occurred at a substation south of Colombo, the country's capital, at around 11am local time on Sunday. According to Sri Lanka's Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody, the power failure was triggered when the monkey came into contact with a grid transformer, creating an imbalance in the system.

The Ceylon Electricity Board confirmed that the disruption was caused by an "emergency" at the substation, and power outages were reported across the island.
