Entergy Mississippi completes $31m infrastructure project

17 Mar 2021
MISSISSIPPI -- Entergy's subsidiary Entergy Mississippi has recently completed a $31 million project that involves the construction of a new substation.

Over a one-year period, the company built the new Mill Street substation which taps into the existing Fondren-to-Monument Street 115-kV line.
The company also built about one mile of 115-kV transmission line and upgraded 3.5 miles of aging 115-kV Hico-Fondren line along Watkins Drive and Bailey Avenue to connect the existing Rex Brown substation to the new substation.
The project provides "an additional source of power into the City of Jackson and supports the expanding Fondren community and Jackson medical corridor, including UMMC and Children's Hospital," Entergy Mississippi President and CEO Haley Fisackerly said in the statement. "Our investment enhances grid reliability for the entire metro area and represents our commitment to ensure a strong, modern grid that can support continued growth in our communities."
The surrounding area that encompasses Northside Drive, Mill Street and Bailey Avenue is expected to benefit from the new facilities, which can enhance economic development in that part of the city, the company said.
