ENERTRAG Enhances Germany’s Grid with New 380 kV Transformer Delivery

2 Apr 2025
ENERTRAG has successfully delivered a new 380 kV transformer to the Bertikow Substation in the Uckermark Combined Power Plant, marking a significant milestone in Germany's energy infrastructure. The 317-ton transformer, which is the first of two to be installed at the substation, will increase the plant's capacity to integrate more renewable energy into the national grid.

The transport of the transformer was an immense logistical challenge. The 81-meter-long unit, along with its transport vehicle weighing 574 tons, covered a distance of approximately 40 km over several days. Notably, the transport involved a full closure of the A11 highway, with the vehicle moving in the opposite lane at certain stages.

This installation is part of a broader initiative to upgrade the regional grid, following the replacement of the old 220 kV line by 50Hertz Transmission GmbH. The new 380 kV overhead line enhances the capacity to integrate renewable energies, reduce grid bottlenecks, and minimize electricity curtailments.

This installation will help improve grid capacity and facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the national network.
