Enea Operator Implements Advanced AI for Grid Management Enhancement

12 Mar 2024

Enea Operator, a leading Polish Distribution System Operator (DSO), is embarking on a groundbreaking initiative to modernize its energy infrastructure. The company is implementing advanced deep learning AI predictive models aimed at enhancing the quality and security of energy supply. Central to this endeavor is the optimization of power transformers and the overall management of the distribution grid.

Partnering with Polish software developer Affexy, Enea Operator's project utilizes proprietary deep learning algorithms to analyze crucial data points. By focusing on relevant data, these models promise continuous improvements in forecast precision, crucial for adapting to the dynamic conditions of today's electricity market.

The initiative, driven by the need to accommodate the rise of renewable energies and evolving energy efficiency regulations, centers on three key areas. Firstly, comprehensive data analysis enables a deeper understanding of network load and the factors influencing its variability. Secondly, data processing ensures efficient utilization by advanced AI models. Lastly, the project culminates in actionable recommendations to optimize data collection processes and forecast quality.

Enea Operator anticipates significant benefits from this endeavor, including a nuanced understanding of network load patterns essential for effective management. Moreover, the project serves as a testing ground for advanced AI techniques in real-world scenarios, laying the groundwork for future full-scale implementation.

Parallel to this initiative, Enea Operator has secured a PLN1 billion investment loan from the European Investment Bank. These funds will support critical distribution works, including the modernization of grids, installation of smart meters, customer connections, and upgrading of power transformers, further underlining the company's commitment to a resilient and sustainable energy future.
