GERMANY - The deconstruction of the old 220-kV line in the area of the section that was now put into operation should start at the end of this year and should be finished by late 2023.

50hertz has announced that the 40-km (25 miles) southern subsection of the Uckermark Line was put into operation after almost two years of construction. The 380-kV line starts north of the substation in Neuenhagen, near Berlin, runs along more than a hundred new pylons and finally connects to the existing line in the vicinity of Golzow, near Britz.

According to 50hertz, the Uckermark Line will transport electricity from renewable energy sources in the northeast of Brandenburg and parts of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to the industrial and consumer hubs, especially Berlin. Because of the connection to the Vierraden substation and to its interconnector with Krajnik in Poland, it is also important for the European scope of the energy transition.

According to the company, it will connect the substations of Neuenhagen and Bertikow, near Pasewalk, by means of a 380-kV line of almost 115 km (71.5 miles) in length. Furthermore, the Vierraden substation will also be connected to the Uckermark Line by means of a so-called tap point. As the new line is still connected to the existing line, it is still operating at a voltage of 220 kV. As soon as the Uckermark Line is connected to the Vierraden substation, the next step will be to increase this voltage level to 380 kV.
