Efacec provides technology for Enel Peru digital substation

25 Mar 2021

PERU -- Enel Group's subsidiary Enel Peru has commissioned Efacec to provide digital technology for the fully automated substation in the Medio Mundo region.

Located 108 miles north of Lima, on the HV and VHV lines corridor, this one of the first Enel digital substations in Latin America and the first to use Efacec's digital automation system.

The manufacturer provided its substation automation system platform for the Medio Mundo substation, as well as the remotely operated permanent system monitoring.

The 220/66 kV digital substation is to address the growing power demand in the Medio Mundo region, allowing to meet the lines voltage contingencies between the Huacho, Supe and Paramonga Nueva substations.

The architecture of this digital substation, which uses 80% less copper cables, is based on an optical fiber network linking the control room equipment (station-bus network) and another one linking the primary equipment (process-bus network).

The substation has been in partial service since October 2019, on the 66 kV voltage level. The 220 kV voltage level came into operation in December 2020, connecting the substation to Peru Transmission System Operator substations and completing the integration of the Huacho-Supe and Huacho-Paramonga lines into the national network.

Enel Peru started the automation process of its electric substations in 2008. Efacec supplied the command, control and protection system for the first of these, the Chillon 220/66 kV substation. Since then, Efacec has provided the technology and substations automation, control and protection systems to several companies of the Enel Group in Latin America.
