Edinburgh Electric Begins Construction of 69kV Substation

5 Jun 2026
Edinburgh Electric Company has officially broken ground on a new 69 kV – 12.5 kV electric distribution substation located in the Edinburgh Industrial Park in Edinburgh, Indiana.

The project is described as a long-term investment in the town’s electric utility system, aimed at improving reliability, increasing capacity, and supporting future industrial and economic growth in the area.

According to the town, the new substation will modernize existing electric infrastructure and include components such as a power transformer, breakers, switches, a control building, and supporting site works. The project also integrates advanced control systems and SCADA technology to enhance operational oversight and grid performance.

Local utility officials highlighted that the development is intended to support both current demand and future expansion needs within the industrial park. The project is also part of broader efforts to strengthen resilience and ensure dependable electricity supply for businesses and residents.

The substation is being developed in coordination with Duke Energy Indiana, which is constructing a 69 kV transmission loop to feed the new facility.

Completion is expected in 2027, when the substation will become fully operational.

Officials emphasized that the project represents more than infrastructure construction, describing it as a foundational investment in long-term economic development and energy reliability for the region.
