ECG Installs Transformers to Improve Power Supply in Accra, Ghana
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has installed nearly 40 new power distribution transformers in the Accra East Region to improve electricity supply reliability.
The transformers, with capacities ranging from 100kVA to 200kVA, have been deployed across eight operational districts. The installations are intended to reduce pressure on overloaded equipment by redistributing customers to the new units.
According to Bismark Otoo, Regional General Manager for Accra East, rising electricity demand has placed significant strain on existing infrastructure, with some transformers operating close to full capacity. This has contributed to intermittent power supply in parts of the region.
“This intervention will significantly improve voltage levels and ensure safer and more reliable electricity supply to our customers,” Bismark Otoo said.
The utility said the new installations are expected to improve voltage levels and stabilize electricity supply for more than 100 communities, including Adenta, East Legon Hills, Oyarifa, and Haatso.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to address network constraints and improve service delivery. Additional transformer installations are planned in other areas where demand exceeds current capacity.
Alongside the transformer rollout, the company is undertaking other system improvements, including vegetation management and the development of new feeders to strengthen the distribution network.
