Eaton to Acquire Resilient Power Systems for Solid-State Transformer Tech

17 Jul 2025
Eaton, a global leader in intelligent power management, has announced an agreement to acquire Resilient Power Systems Inc., a U.S.-based innovator in solid-state transformer (SST) technology.

The acquisition reinforces Eaton's strategic commitment to next-generation transformer solutions, particularly in high-power, high-efficiency direct current (DC) applications. Resilient's medium-voltage SSTs enable compact, modular, and grid-connected energy systems, ideal for EV charging depots, battery storage, and data centers.

"This acquisition is about the future of transformers," said Mike Yelton, President of Eaton's Americas Region, Electrical Sector. "Solid-state transformers offer a step-change in performance, enabling more efficient and flexible power distribution for evolving infrastructure needs."

Unlike traditional transformers, solid-state transformers use advanced power electronics to convert voltage levels and manage power flow more precisely. Resilient's SSTs are ultra-compact and allow direct connection to the medium-voltage grid, accelerating EV infrastructure deployment and enabling higher power density in data center environments.

Based in Austin, Texas, Resilient Power Systems is backed by Energy Transition Ventures and has commercialized a portfolio of SST-enabled products, including ultra-compact charging depots designed for fast deployment.

The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2025, pending customary approvals.

With this move, Eaton expands its advanced transformer portfolio and strengthens its leadership in the fast-growing market for intelligent, efficient power distribution.
