11 Sep 2023

The expansion project aims to address the surging demands in the power industry and is set to create 149 new job opportunities in the Lynchburg region.

Delta Star, a well-established and respected name in the power industry, recently announced a significant investment of over $30 million in the expansion of its corporate headquarters and transformer manufacturing facility in Lynchburg, Virginia. The company has been a steadfast contributor to the Lynchburg community for over six decades and is the largest U.S.-owned medium transformer manufacturer in the nation.

The expansion project aims to address the surging demands in the power industry and is set to create 149 new job opportunities in the Lynchburg region. This expansion represents a milestone in their enduring commitment to providing high-quality power solutions made in the United States.

Governor Glenn Youngkin expressed his enthusiasm for the expansion, stating, "Delta Star has been a valuable and reliable employer in the City of Lynchburg for more than 60 years, and the company has grown to become the largest U.S.-owned medium transformer producer in the country. Manufacturing is a major economic driver across the Commonwealth, and we are proud that this industry leader's products are not only 'Made in America,' they are also 'Made in Virginia.' We congratulate Delta Star on decades of success in the Commonwealth."

Delta Star's Lynchburg manufacturing facility, which initially opened its doors in 1961, currently spans 300,000 square feet and employs over 400 workers. This facility is the largest among its three manufacturing locations, including those in San Carlos and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. The expansion project entails an additional 80,000 square feet of manufacturing space dedicated to supporting mobile and power transformer operations, essential for meeting the growing demands of the dynamic power industry.

Jason Greene, Delta Star's President and Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the company's commitment to its core values and the Lynchburg community. He stated, "We believe Delta Star's core values give us the power to build a strong business, culture, and way of life. The Commonwealth of Virginia offers a unique set of advantages such as transportation access, a business-friendly attitude at both state and local levels, along with exceptionally well-executed and supported workforce development and recruitment programs. Lastly, the significant economic development and growth of the Lynchburg region through numerous programs, projects, and investments have made a lasting impact, one that Delta Star is committed to continually supporting in the cultivation of a thriving region and state."
