Delgaz Grid to Supply Electricity to Future Regional Emergency Hospital

6 Mar 2026
Delgaz Grid, part of the E.ON Group in Romania, has signed a $33.6 million (145 million lei) financing contract to supply electricity to the future Regional Emergency Hospital (SRU) Iași, serving the North-East region of Romania.

The project includes $27,8 million in non-reimbursable European funding from the European Regional Development Fund through the Sustainable Development Programme, with a focus on smart energy systems, networks, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Delgaz Grid contributes $5.8 million.

Cristian Secoșan, General Manager of Delgaz Grid, described the initiative as the company’s largest single-site investment to date. Beyond powering the SRU, the project aims to enhance regional energy security, improve electricity distribution quality, and support future renewable energy connections.

Key project works include:

  • Construction of a new 110/20 kV transformer station with two 25 MVA transformers.
  • Modernization of 1.5 km of high-voltage lines and construction of 8.6 km of new lines.
  • Upgrades to 4.8 km of medium-voltage lines and addition of 16.6 km of new lines.
  • Modernization of 16 transformer stations and construction of 6 new stations.
  • Installation of 2,886 new connections and deployment of a SCADA system for remote monitoring.

The project is scheduled from 2026 to 2029, in parallel with the hospital construction. Delgaz Grid continues to prioritize European funding for energy infrastructure, with 15 ongoing projects worth $506.4 million targeting smart metering, network modernization, and new transformer stations.
