DB Schenker Transports Massive Transformers for Polish Power Project

28 May 2025
DB Schenker has successfully transported two heavyweight BAT transformers from Zhangjiagang, China, to Rybnik, Poland, supporting the development of a new 882-megawatt combined-cycle gas and steam power plant.

The critical components, weighing 363 tons and 244 tons, were delivered for Siemens Energy, marking a milestone in the infrastructure project.

The multi-modal logistics operation began with ocean freight to the port of Szczecin, Poland. There, the transformers were directly transhipped to a barge without interim storage, streamlining the process. The cargo then traveled inland via waterways to Kędzierzyn-Koźle.

A 600-ton LR1600 crawler crane offloaded the units onto specialized trailers for the final road segment to the Rybnik site. At the destination, a 650-ton CC3800 crawler crane completed the heavy-lift operation by positioning the transformers onto their foundations.

This delivery highlights DB Schenker's expertise in coordinating complex, oversized cargo logistics across continents, and plays a key role in enhancing Poland's power infrastructure.
