Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners Secures Key Transformer Contract for Teruel Wind Farm

10 Jul 2024
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has made significant progress in the development of the Maestrazgo Cluster of the Teruel Wind Farm by signing a crucial contract with Hitachi Energy. This agreement involves the delivery, installation, and commissioning of step-up transformers and interconnection to the 400 kV grid.

The Teruel Wind Farm, CIP's second project in Spain, aims to accelerate the energy transition and decarbonize the national electrical system, reducing CO2 emissions by over 320 thousand tons annually. Hitachi Energy, with a strong industrial presence in Spain, will manufacture the largest autotransformers, 315 MVA and 680 MVA at 400 kV, at their factory in Córdoba.

This new contract builds on CIP's previous agreement with GE Vernova for the supply of 125 wind turbines, whose blades will be produced in GE Vernova's factory in Castellón, with the towers manufactured in plants located in Albacete, Burgos, and Galicia. The combined efforts of these partnerships make the Teruel Wind Farm a pivotal project for the Spanish wind industry value chain.

The Hitachi Energy factory in Córdoba, one of the group's most innovative and historic plants, will play a key role in this project, leveraging the latest technologies in both column and armored design for large transformers. This Transformer Supply Contract continues the collaboration between CIP and Hitachi Energy, who previously supplied evacuation transformers for the 487 MW Monegros Project in Aragon.
