ComEd Energizes Two Illinois Substations to Support 550 MW of Wind Power
ComEd, a unit of Exelon Corporation, has completed and energized two new 345 kV transmission substations in LaSalle and Woodford counties, Illinois, enabling the future connection of up to 550 MW of wind energy generation.
The new infrastructure will support two planned utility-scale wind projects: Osagrove Flats, a 150 MW facility expected to begin commercial operations in late 2026, and Panther Grove, a 400 MW project targeted for operation in early 2027.
The substations are designed to expand transmission capacity, improve grid reliability, and support additional renewable energy resources entering the PJM Interconnection market. The combined wind capacity is expected to provide enough electricity to serve approximately 264,000 homes annually.

The projects began construction in 2023 and were completed more than four months ahead of schedule. ComEd said the work involved more than 113,000 labor hours, installation of 16 transmission towers, more than 58 miles of fiber infrastructure, and new conductor installations.
ComEd continues to invest in grid modernization efforts as electricity demand rises across the United States. The company has also connected more than 1.7 GW of distributed energy resources in Illinois, including renewable generation supported through advanced grid management technologies.
