Colombia readies Chocó transmission tender

25 Mar 2021
COLOMBIA -- The Ministry of Mines and Energy has published the preliminary documents for a 230 kV power transmission project in the western department of Chocó.

The initiative includes the Atrato substation in the municipality of Carmen de Atrato and an associated 45,6-mile dual-circuit power line, according to ministry planning unit UPME.
The new infrastructure is slated to begin commercial operations on June 30, 2025.
A bidding timetable has yet to be established and no details were provided about the estimated cost.
It is the third Colombian transmission tender to be launched this year, following calls for expressions of interest in the Carrieles and Pacífico projects.
UPME is also coordinating a competitive selection process for Colombia's first grid-scale battery storage project in the Caribbean port city of Barranquilla.
The entity plans to auction more than 497 miles of HV power lines this year, requiring investments of almost $360 million.
