China Supplies 82% of Ukraine’s Transformer Imports in 2025 Surge

20 May 2025
Ukraine imported $338 million worth of transformers, inductors, and chokes in the first four months of 2025, a 2.5-fold increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to the State Customs Service.

The bulk of imports--$279 million or 82.5%--came from China, a 4.2-times increase from the previous year's $66.1 million. Other key suppliers included Germany ($17.4 million) and Turkey ($13.9 million), though Turkey's exports to Ukraine fell compared to $37.1 million in the same period last year.

In April alone, Ukraine imported $55.2 million worth of this equipment--up 50% year-over-year, but down 22.3% compared to March 2025. China's share of April imports stood at 48.7%.

Meanwhile, Ukraine exported $8.37 million in transformers, inductors, and chokes during the same period, an increase from $5.64 million in 2024. Key export markets included Germany, Hungary, and Poland.

Full-year data for 2024 shows that imports of these electrical components more than doubled to $596.11 million, with Chinese-made products accounting for $400.48 million of that total.
