China’s Largest Zero-Carbon Substation Features SGCC’s Biggest Ester-Oil Transformer Project

25 Nov 2024
The SGCC Wuhan Qingyun 110kV Substation, China's largest zero-carbon facility of its kind, is now operational. This milestone project incorporates the largest ester-oil transformer (level-1 energy efficiency) project within State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), showcasing significant advancements in sustainable energy solutions.

Key contributions from Siemens Energy include 12 bays of Blue GIS and three 50MVA ester-oil transformers (110kV), featuring advanced merging units and intelligent terminals. These technologies are projected to reduce carbon emissions by 13,000 tons over the substation's lifecycle by minimizing gas leakage.

The transformers, achieving level-1 energy efficiency, are part of SGCC's commitment to sustainable infrastructure. By adopting Siemens Energy's innovations, the substation is expected to cut emissions by 15%, equivalent to planting 21,000 trees.

Beyond these technologies, the substation incorporates rooftop solar panels, intelligent inspection robots, digital twins, and an integrated energy-efficiency management system, establishing a benchmark for decarbonized energy infrastructure in China.
