Chile begins technical tests on a $1b transmission line

28 May 2019

CHILE - Electricity transmission company Interchile has started technical testing on the 753-km Cardones-Polpaico transmission project, a new line connecting the country's northern and central-southern grids into a single national grid (SEN).

After the technical tests are complete, the line should start full operations on June 11, reports BN Americas.

The new line built at a cost of $1 billion will allow electricity interconnection of Chile in 500 kV.

Significant parts of the line are already operational and have partially connected the two regional systems.
