Cargill Expands FR3® Natural Ester Fluid Production in the Netherlands
Cargill has opened a new production facility for FR3® natural ester dielectric fluid in Gouda, Netherlands, tripling its European production capacity. The expansion addresses growing demand from electrical infrastructure projects, data centers, renewable energy, and battery storage.
The new plant strengthens supply availability, simplifies logistics, and improves responsiveness for customers seeking bio-based, high-performance transformer fluids. FR3® fluid is biodegradable, has twice the fire point of mineral oil, and is designed to enhance grid resiliency and transformer performance. It has been used in over 5 million installations worldwide over the past 30 years.
Colleen May, President of Cargill Bioindustrial, stated that the facility allows the company to better serve regional customers and respond faster to market needs.
The Gouda site was chosen for its existing expertise in ester-based products, strong operational readiness, and strategic location with excellent transport access. Cargill invested approximately $30 million in the expansion, reinforcing its commitment to local manufacturing in the Netherlands.
