Brush Transformers has announced that they have completed the UK's first retrofit to the Vacuum Bolt On (VBO) Tapchanger for a valued southern DNO.

According to Brush Transformers, the installation of this Tapchanger will enable 100% reverse power flow, 300,000 operations/15-year maintenance intervals and improved reliability.

The retrofitting should lead to a reduced carbon footprint through fewer maintenance intervals, which should in turn mean fewer instances of engineers driving to the site to complete the works, and fewer deliveries of parts and replacement oil.

The installation should also provide asset life extension due to the removal of fixed tap/faulted tap changers on deemed healthy Transformers.
