BRUSH opens flagship transformer test cell facility in Loughborough, UK

10 Jul 2024
BRUSH Group, a leading energy engineering solutions provider, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art transformer test cell facility at its manufacturing site in Loughborough, Leicestershire, UK. This multi-million-pound facility, housed within the historic Falcon Works, marks a significant expansion to BRUSH's capabilities in transformer testing.

The newly opened test cell boasts a high-voltage acoustic test area with impressive 12-meter-high doors. It is designed to rigorously test newly manufactured power transformers before they are dispatched to customers worldwide. This facility enables BRUSH to conduct a comprehensive range of tests, ensuring that each transformer meets stringent performance standards.

At the official opening, key representatives from BRUSH's customer base joined company employees to commemorate the occasion. The facility includes dedicated storage for up to four of BRUSH's largest transformer units, thereby enhancing production capacity to meet the growing demand for power transformers in the UK amid its drive towards decarbonization.

Nicolas Pitrat, CEO of BRUSH Group, emphasized the facility's role in meeting increasing demand from various sectors including power network operators, renewable energy producers, and public infrastructure providers. He highlighted the facility's compliance with international standards (IEC BSEN and ENA) and its energy-efficient design.

Pitrat added, "I'm really proud of what the team at BRUSH has achieved with this latest investment, and especially pleased with our team of new engineering apprentices who have come on board to support our growth including operating the new test cell."

The test cell offers a comprehensive suite of routine and type tests for transformers up to 170kV, encompassing tests such as winding resistance, core insulation, short-circuit impedance, and temperature rise, among others. This capability ensures that BRUSH remains at the forefront of transformer technology and customer satisfaction.
