British firms to build underwater power link between Scotland and England

18 Nov 2020
UNITED KINGDOM - SSE, ScottishPower and the UK National Grid are planning to develop a 4 GW power link between Scotland and England.

The Eastern Link project will include two 2 GW HVDC cables running from Scotland to north-east England along the North Sea seabed for more than 270 miles.
The underwater cables will supply power from the east of Scotland to the north-east of England, providing renewable energy for around 4.5 million homes.
SSE, ScottishPower and the UK National Grid have already started the survey works along the route.
The construction of the Eastern Link is due to begin in 2024.
