Brazil adding 14,500 MVA transformation capacity; announces $100b investment in electric power projects by 2027

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, energy minister Bento Albuquerque and the director of the regulator ANEEL, André Pepitone, all participated in the signing ceremony of the concession contracts for the construction of new power transmission lines running from north to south of Brazil.


The contracts will result in the construction of 7,152 km of new lines and addition of 14,500 MVA of transformation capacity, reports Ultimo Instante.

The projects, which will generate investments of $3.3 billion, will be carried out in the states of Amazonas, Amapá, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondônia, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Tocantins.

On the occasion, Minister Bento Albuquerque announced that the country is planning to invest $450 billion in the energy sector in the next ten years, of which $100 billion in electric power projects until 2027.

From 2019 to 2027, an increase of 5,900 km of new lines and addition of 8,500 MVA of transformation capacity per year is planned.
