Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Project Installs First High-Voltage Transformer
The first high-voltage transformer has been installed on one of the four offshore substations for Baltica 2, the Polish offshore wind project managed by Ørsted. The substations, described as the "beating heart" of the wind farm, will collect electricity from turbines, step up the voltage, and transmit power to shore.
Each topside substation will stand approximately 45 metres tall and weigh around 3,000 tonnes. Ulrik Lange, Managing Director of Baltica 2, said the transformer installation marks a critical milestone, turning construction into operational energy infrastructure. He highlighted the project team's focus on precision, professionalism, and safety throughout the process.
Construction of the offshore substations is proceeding on schedule. The first two are structurally complete, while the remaining two are being coated and prepared for equipment installation. The full transmission system is expected to be ready for commissioning in 2027.
As Poland's flagship offshore wind initiative, Baltica 2 contributes to Ørsted's global 8.1 GW offshore wind construction programme planned from 2025 to 2027. Once operational, it will provide renewable electricity to millions of Polish homes.
