In a move to bolster the Northern Territory's power infrastructure, the Territory Labor Government of Australia has initiated a substantial upgrade of the Trevor Horman Substation in Berrimah. Valued at $55.3 million, the project aims to meet the burgeoning electricity demands of industrial zones in Berrimah and Wishart.

The Trevor Horman Substation serves as a vital hub for supplying electricity to key industrial areas, ensuring a reliable power supply essential for business operations. With functional and concept designs finalized, the project has entered the detailed design phase, marking a significant milestone in the upgrade process.

Awarded to Darwin-based company ESPEC, the design and construction contract underscores the government's commitment to supporting local businesses. Civil works are slated to commence in August, with construction anticipated to span over the next two years. The scope of work encompasses the installation of new 66kV AIS switchyard, power transformers, construction of a control building, and the establishment of new secondary systems.

According to Minister for Essential Services Kate Worden, this investment underscores the government's dedication to ensuring reliable power supply for industrial growth. Minister Worden emphasized the government's ownership of assets like Power and Water and Territory Generation, asserting its ability to make strategic investments in infrastructure without privatization concerns.

"The upgrade of the Trevor Horman Substation will ensure the growing industrial areas of Berrimah and Wishart will have reliable power supply into the future," stated Minister Worden. "Make no mistake, the CLP will sell Power and Water and Territory Generation just like they did with the Port of Darwin and TIO."
