ATXI Zachary Substation transformer delivered to substation site

27 Feb 2019

A massive power transformer made its way through northeast Missouri Tuesday afternoon on its way to Zachary Substation, a $25 million project being built as part of the Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois' (ATXI) Mark Twain Transmission Project.

The transformer to be installed at the substation site near Troy Mills arrived by rail at the La Plata Amtrak Station, from where it was transported on a multi-axel trailer to Troy Mills, travelling 15 miles per hour on Highway 63, reports KTVO.

The Mark Twain Project will consist of a 96-mile 345 kV transmission line that will run from Palmyra to Kirksville in Missouri and then north to the Iowa border.

ATXI plans to commission the line this spring.
