ASTA Strengthens India Presence with Vadodara Plant Expansion

8 Apr 2026
ASTA Group is expanding its production capacity in India with a new production line at its Vadodara facility in Gujarat, targeting rising demand for high-quality copper conductors used in the transformer industry.

The expansion aligns with ASTA Group’s long-term growth strategy in one of the world’s fastest-growing energy infrastructure markets. India’s rapid electrification, urbanization, and digitalization, alongside increasing data center and AI-driven demand, are accelerating the need for advanced power transmission solutions.

Karl Schäcke, CEO of ASTA Group, said:

As a result, the country is emerging as one of the most important growth markets for energy infrastructure worldwide. With the expansion of our Vadodara site, we are consistently pursuing our ‘Local-for-Local’ strategy and creating the conditions to benefit sustainably from the dynamic growth of the Indian energy market. At the same time, we are focusing on increasing our local supply of major infrastructure projects in the field of high-voltage direct current transmission in the future.”

The Vadodara plant, established in 2007, supplies copper solutions to India and other Asian markets. The new expansion, expected to be completed in the first half of 2027, will significantly increase output to meet growing demand from OEM customers, including GE Vernova T&D India, which recently signed a long-term agreement with ASTA.

The facility will manufacture continuously transposed conductors (CTCs), critical components in high-voltage transformers. A prior upgrade in 2024, including the installation of a bell annealing furnace, boosted annealing capacity by more than 50%.
