Argentina’s largest electricity distributor changes ownership
ARGENTINA - Empresa Distribuidora y Comercializadora Norte (Edenor), the country's largest power distributor, has changed ownership.
In June 2021, the Argentinian power sector regulator Ente Nacional Regulador de Electricidad (Enre) had approved the $95 million takeover and referred it antitrust Commission of Competition Defense of Argentina (CNDC) without observations, reports BNamericas.
Edenor is now operated by Empresa de EnergÃa del Cono Sur, owned by the local investors José Luis Manzano, Daniel Vila and Mauricio Filiberti.
In December 2020, Empresa de EnergÃa del Cono Sur agreed to buy generator and natural gas player Pampa EnergÃa's 51% stake in Edenor, which serves 3.2 million customers in the greater Buenos Aires metropolitan region.
"Edenor will play an active role in innovation and in the promotion of the energy transition, the electrification of the economy and transport and distribution of renewable energy, where the users themselves can be both consumers and injectors of power into the system," Edenor said in a statement announcing the change in ownership.
When the deal was unveiled, Pampa said: "The sale of our stake in Edenor is part of our strategic investment plan aiming to continue expanding the power generation installed capacity and developing unconventional natural gas reserves."
