AEP West Virginia to build substation and 20 miles of transmission line

25 Nov 2020
WEST VIRGINIA - American Electric Power's Appalachian Power and its affiliate AEP West Virginia Transmission are planning upgrades to the electric transmission system in West Virginia through the Kenna Area Transmission Line Project.

The project includes building about 20 miles of electric transmission line, as well as building a substation and upgrading two substations in the area.
The substations to be upgraded are the Sisson and Ripley substations, while the new substation to be built is the 138 kV Kenna substation.
The project area includes the Kanawha and Jackson counties in West Virginia.
The upgrades are designed to increase electric reliability for customers; strengthen the local power grid by bringing an additional power source to the area; and reduce the likelihood of power outages, reports Transmission Hub.
The company expects construction to begin in fall 2021 and conclude by fall 2023.
