OHIO - American Electric Power's AEP Ohio is planning an approximate $65 million investment to upgrade the electric transmission grid in Southeast Columbus and Groveport in Ohio, through the Southeast Columbus Area Improvements Project.

The project includes building about five miles of 138 kV transmission line between the Groves and Shannon substations.
4.5 miles of 138 kV transmission line between the Astor and Shannon substations will be rebuilt, as well as about 4.5 miles of 138 kV transmission line between the Bixby and Shannon substations.
The works will also include the expansion of the Shannon substation near the intersection of Shannon Road and Brice Road.
The project area includes the City of Columbus, the City of Groveport, as well as Truro and Madison townships in Franklin County.
The Ohio Power Siting Board is expected to reach a decision on the project in fall 2022. If the project is approved, construction is set to occur from spring 2022 to spring 2025.
