ACTOM Power Transformers, a division of ACTOM (Pty) Ltd, has celebrated more than six decades of engineering in South Africa, aligning the milestone with the expansion of its Wadeville factory. The facility upgrades, completed in 2024, have boosted production capacity by 35%, enabling the company to meet rising demand in the utility, municipal, and renewable energy sectors.

Founded in 1963, the company has transitioned from its roots as a subsidiary of Bonar Long to a fully South African manufacturer. It produces Class 1 and 2 transformers ranging from 2.5 MVA to 315 MVA, up to 275 kV.

A key development is its transformer test lab's recommendation for SANAS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation, making it the only lab of its kind in Africa. The lab performs advanced tests, including high-voltage impulse and partial discharge diagnostics.

Steve Jordaan, Divisional CEO, highlighted the company's end-to-end transformer solutions, emphasizing 40-year lifespan designs and long-term customer partnerships. Wilma Muller, Sales and Marketing Manager, noted that the SANAS accreditation sets a new benchmark for quality in Africa.

With over 60 renewable energy projects delivered, ACTOM's footprint includes notable sites like Redstone, Jeffrey's Bay, and Loeriesfontein. The company's condition monitoring tools and lifecycle support services help ensure reliable infrastructure for energy developers.

ACTOM continues to expand in response to the continent's growing need for grid resilience and clean energy solutions.
