Abengoa selected to construct two substations and a transmission line in Chile

21 May 2019

CHILE - Abengoa, an international company that applies new technology solutions for sustainability in the energy sector, has been selected by Arauco for the development of a new transmission project in the Andean country in Chile.

The contract includes the construction of a 220 kV-transmission line and two electrical substations to connect a generation plant from biomass owned by Arauco to the national electric grid (Sistema Electrico Nacional-SEN) through the Lagunillas substation, property of the Chilean transmission company Transelec, Abengoa states in a press release.

The project comes as a part of the modernization and expansion project of the Arauco plant (called MAPA project), which includes the expansion of two plants owned by Arauco, one for cellulose and another for the generation of electricity from biomass. This second plant will generate clean energy to be self-sufficient and the surplus will be supplied to the national grid.
